- Violence at Alliance Universelle Israelite

Jews could not escape the backlash against them in Lebanon either, with everday harassment on the rise. Jewish civil servants are fired from their jobs and Jewish youth organization are banned. In 1951, a bomb explodes at Alliance Universelle Israelite school in Beirut.

“One day we woke up on Sunday morning. My father came from shul and he said, “They bombed the Alliance Française.” And our principal died in the school with the concierge. Thank G-d the bomb blew up in the evening during no school. It was supposed to blow up the next day. And the whole school was rubble- that’s it. It was horrible. Everybody knows Mr. Jacob Safra. He said, “I have a big house with many rooms that can fit all elementary school.” He gave us the whole house for the elementary. I was ten years old. We were devastated, and we just came from Halab two or three years.” — Rachel Cattan Mouhadeb, Episode 6
