- To America

After the opening of the Suez Canal, Aleppo transforms from a thriving trading center to a city struggling to survive. Syrian Jews begin to emigrate to neighboring countries – Egypt and Lebanon, soon others travel farther into Europe, with many settling Manchester, England, and in 1892, the first Syrian Jews emigrate to New York.
