- CRSJ

In 1988, a group of Syrian Jews in Brooklyn form the Council for the Rescue of Syrian Jews (CRSJ). They hold rallies and fundraisers, and persuade hundreds of senators and congressmen to join the cause. The groundswell of activism and tremendous changes in world politics puts pressure on President Assad to allow the emigration of Syria’s Jews.

“I think that Assad realized he had no choice. There was an escalation in the noise around this issue. There was a tremendous amount of pressure being put on the Syrian government.” – Marcos Zalta, Episode 7
