- Bet Nasi Synagogue

Due to Syria’s Jews having dhimmi status, which restricted the construction, repairing, refurbishing or expanding houses of worship, there was only one synagogue in Aleppo – the Great Synagogue – until the Bet Nasi Synagogue was constructed in 1760. It is the first new synagogue to be built in the city in hundreds of years. Although at least eighteen synagogues had existed hundreds of years before, they were either converted into mosques or destroyed.
